Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) Endorses Obama

Democratic Representative Pete Stark of Northern California became the first superdelegate of the day to pick a side, declaring that he'd be casting his vote for Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention in August.

"Senator Barack Obama has captured the imagination of Americans in a way we’ve not seen for decades," he said in a statement. "He’s inspired millions of young people to register to vote and join the ranks of our Democratic Party, he’s consistently opposed the war, he advocates universal health care, and he delivers a message that transcends party politics at the same time."

Stark's endorsement brings Obama within 124 delegates of clinching his party's nomination and the right to take on John McCain in November.
